Early collaborative work on interior and gallery spaces for the museum's downtown building — a formative civic project.

The commission — undertaken early in the practice, in collaboration with the museum's design team — established many of the values that would define the studio: restraint, careful daylighting, and material clarity.

Work centered on a suite of gallery spaces and their thresholds — floor plates, casework, lighting details — where the architecture had to recede so that the collection could carry the room.

Decades later, the project remains a reference point for the studio's approach to civic and institutional work: the belief that the best public rooms are the ones you don't notice at first.
