Sutherland Bench

A long teak garden bench produced by Sutherland — a single horizontal line resting on two tapered supports.

The Sutherland Bench was drawn as a single long horizontal member — an eight-foot teak plank — resting on two tapered legs that read almost as shadows beneath it.

The joinery is deliberately spare: mortised and pegged in solid teak, with no visible hardware, so that the piece can be read at a distance as a single line in the garden.

The bench was designed to sit against a low hedge or a garden wall as a companion piece rather than an object of display — a place to pause on the way through the garden.
